Our mother always says that food, the thing that nourishes your body and soul, “should always taste good no matter your situation, and regardless of budget”.
This was particularly true for our family. Having to endure seven long years in a refugee camp, food was scarce and our options were limited.
While I don’t remember much of what we ate, I remember that whatever my mother served, it was delicious. It must have been the masterful way she meticulously prepared the food, but the secret was the combination of traditional Laotian and family sauces that gave it so much flavour.
Now that we’ve settled in Toronto, we want to share our traditional family recipes, our secret, with you and yours.
No matter what you’re eating, it should always taste good!
